If your precious wonder is growing up and you think you’d like to make her a little present in pink, then you need look no further than the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf which has been available in Pink for over a year now. Read on to get a better idea of what it offers and why it’s the most suitable gift to your kiddykins!
Yes, this netbook has been around for a while even in pink, but we’re reviewing it today to help you get a better understanding of the smallest netbook available in the market. And that’s not the only distinction that qualifies this netbook for an inspection; it also happens to be very affordable for its miniature size. You can purchase it online for between $270-$299. Weighing a mere 0.92Kgs, it’s ideal for the small shoulders it will be carried on.
Available in a fancy blush pink, this netbook comes with a 7 inch display, an Intel CPU and Chipset, 512Mb Memory and 2Gb SSD storage. The only drawback being that it comes with a pre-installed GNU Linux OS though it is Windows XP compatible and many packs provide a Windows XP installation guide. Other features include an HD Audio Stereo Speaker with Mic, an Ethernet connection, WLAN and 4 battery cells that give it 2.8 hours of life.
The blush pink exterior is made from plastic and while that doesn’t give it a very expensive look, Asus had to compromise to keep the price down. Open it up and you’ll find that the keyboard (though full) looks very, very small. Keep in mind though that, that shouldn’t be a problem for your little one. The same goes for the small mouse pad at the bottom which has just one mouse button. Click on the right side to use it as a right button and the left to make use of left button options.
On the left side are located an Ethernet port, USB port, an exhaust vent and two jacks for microphone and headphone. On the right are found a Kensington lock port, VGA out, 2 additional USB ports and a card reader. What this blush pink netbook lacks are an optical drive and a camera, stuff we believe kids won’t miss too much.
The 7” screen provides a resolution of 800 X 480 and has a set of speakers located on either side. The Mic is located above the screen. While the resolution makes it necessary to scroll a lot, video watching is still pretty good on this toy-sized Pink netbook. The OpenOffice suite allows your little one to make use of word processor or a presentation maker along with a spreadsheet, for any school related assignments.
You can plug in an Ipod shuffle and listen to music on this netbook but cannot access information on an Iphone though it does charge the latter when plugged in. This beauty starts up in a mere 30 seconds, thanks to the SSD and Linux OS.
One disadvantage that must be mentioned here is the fact that it doesn’t allow you to use too many programs at the same time. But again, we believe that this issue while playing a major role in the decision making process when the buyer’s an adult, should not make that much of a difference for a child.
Well, what are you waiting for? You don’t need an occasion to gift your little one with his/her first pink laptop!
