Pink Laptops

Continuing our articles on the line of ASUS’s pink laptops, we’ll today present the ASUS Eee PC 901 Sakura pink laptop. The Eee PC 901 is pretty similar to its predecessor Eee PC 900, however, there are a few changes that improve the performance and the looks.

The Eee PC 901 weighs a mere 1.1 kgs but it is 100 gms. heavier than its predecessor due to the addition of the 6600mAh battery. The design is only slightly different but the changes make a significant impact. The subtle changes are on the sides which are noticeably curvier than the PC 900 and give the PC 901 a classy look. It also incorporates a larger touchpad based on feedback received from previous customers who were not very satisfied with the PC 900’s small touchpad.

The keyboard is a disappointment as it is remains the same as the PC 900 and was expected to be a little more spacious than its predecessor, however, the keys themselves are astonishingly firm and one tends to get used to them over a period of time. New additions include a bunch of shortcut keys which haven’t been seen in the Eee series before. These shortcut keys can deactivate the backlight to save battery life, alter the screen resolution and move through a set of performance settings such as high performance, power saving, super performance and auto high performance.

Another important addition is the larger vent that helps keep the netbook cool by expelling more hot air. Also, the fan is a silent worker and makes its presence felt only when you place your hand next to the vent and feel the air.

This 8.9-inch display netbook is powered by Intel Atom N270 chipset and has a 1 GB RAM. It comes with a choice of two OS. The Windows XP OS has a 12 / 16 GB HDD, whereas the Linux OS has a 20 GB HDD.

The biggest selling point of this netbook is its battery life. The battery is supposed to last up to 8 hours. Higher battery life can be attained with the use of the right performance settings. While testing it we played a movie, turned the brightness to maximum and turned Wi-Fi on, the battery lasted for an impressive 4.5 hours.

The netbook has Bluetooth for trouble-free data transfers to other devices. It also has high speed wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 802.11n. The connectivity with the wireless device is extremely good for a netbook in this price range.

Overall, the Eee PC 901 is remarkably better than its predecessor. It looks classier, is faster, has a longer battery life and has a far more efficient CPU.

On the downside, it is 100 gms heavier than its predecessor (which really doesn’t make that much of a difference, or does it?). The keyboard still remains a little cramped and hasn’t undergone any changes that improve the typing experience.

This model is priced at $ 550 and is expected to hit the shelves on 1st July.
