Today’s post explores the features and specs of Asus’ Sakura colored Eee PC S101 which falls into the mini notebook category. The last of the many Asus offerings to be reviewed by us, this pink laptop aims at claiming a spot for itself in the high-end market. Does it live up to its ambitions and what features contribute towards making it stand out in the market filled with several netbooks by several brands including Asus itself? Read on to find out.

Asus has increased the size of this model to accommodate a 10.2” screen, (high quality LED backlit WSVGA 1024x600),and a better spaced keyboard to differentiate it from the other Eee PC family members (the one complaint being the half-size right shift key which touch typists need a lot of getting used to). It has also worked on coming up with a beauty that grabs eyeballs with its up-market look. Not many will remain unimpressed with the looks of this glossy pink infused model which happens to be just a tad thicker than Apple’s MacBook Air. Weighing just over 1kg, this remarkably good looking laptop has a smaller footprint than an A4 sheet.

These improvements will definitely boost this notebook’s popularity with potential buyers who want mobile laptops that not only offer a comfortable user experience but also enhance their style quotient. So what if the specs remain more or less the same: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270, 2GB RAM.

The Windows XP version comes with a 16GB durable SSD and an additional 16GB SD card. Add to this the 30GB online storage space Asus offers buyers and you have a reasonable amount of space. Choose the Linux version and you can get either a 32GB standard hard drive or a 64GB SSD. Businessmen desirous of choosing the Windows XP version need to be warned that it’s the Home Edition they’ll be getting which lacks some important XP Professional features.

Other features include a 0.3 MP webcam, 3 USB ports, 1 VGA out, 1 Ethernet port, 2 audio jacks, a 4-in-1 MMC, an SD, Memory Stick and an MS-PRO flash card slot. 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ensure super fast connectivity and transfer rates.

The stand out feature of the pretty pink PC S101 is the battery which provides a little over 4 hours of life. This is an important feature for netbooks and smaller sized laptops because they’re designed to meet the mobile needs of customers constantly on the move. Not having to worry about battery life definitely adds to the convenience of using this mini notebook.
